The Optical Coordimeter is used to monitor the deformation behavior inside of water dams. For that purpose steel wires are solidly installed into the dam wall and run through it vertically. The achievable accuracy is within several tenths of a millimeter.

Using the Optical Coordimeter, the position of a plumb wire in relation to the alignment plane (parallel to it or in cross direction) can be determined with an accuracy of ± 0.1 mm. To do that the Optical Coordimeter is attached to a solidly installed wall mount bracket with forced centering mechanism.
The Coordimeter consists of two arms with horizontal gauges that are placed perpendicularly to each other. The measurement value is read off a micrometer vernier with a graduation of 0.1 mm. When taking a measurement, the telescopes are targeted toward the left or right edge of the plum wire.
